OTANI NIEUWENHUIZE at work on a rooftop in Ukiha
Last Sunday our first shoot of the new OTANI NIEUWENHUIZE project ORANDA LOCI took place.
Theme of this part of the project is badminton, one of the things brought to Japan by the Dutch during the time of the trading post Dejima, between 1641 and 1859. On a rooftop of a grocery store in Ukiha me and Shinji Otani photographed twins.
Work in progress – scouting locations
Since our new project ORANDA LOCI is about the Genius Loci, the spirit of a place, location is a vital element of it. For our pictures we are scouting locations in the cultural and natural landscape of Kyushu.
New OTANI NIEUWENHUIZE. New portrait.
In 2015 I started to collaborate with Shinji Otani. As artist duo OTANI NIEUWENHUIZE we are now working on a new project, ORANDA LOCI.
This Sunday we will travel to Ukiha, Japan, to work on it for a month. During our working period we focus on the visible influence the Dutch have had on the cultural landscape of Japan.
For the occasion photographer Koos Breukel made two great portraits of our artist duo.
The new project is generously supported by Ukiha City, Panasonic LUMIX, Mondriaan Fund, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Tokyo and The Shareholders.
