COMPACT – upcoming

A book about a compact world and its beauty
This project was prompted by the passing of Maarten, one of my best friends.
After he died, everything went quiet, and the world became very small. After a while, I began to see beauty around me again, and started photographing my surroundings.
I often worked with a compact camera. I photographed whatever caught my eye, nothing more and nothing less: a funny thing on a wall, something on the kitchen worktop, the mist around a building. Photographs of small subjects.
The book opens with a photograph of the sky, taken at the moment Maarten passed away.
COMPACT is partly about him, but above all about the feeling of loss and the unpredictable way grief unfolds. In my experience grief does not move in a straight line. A feeling that I think many people will recognize.
